.......Thanks to Per Segerback for the additional facts he supplies about this very recent Swedish (Prof. Hardell) study.....

In the original message, I should have pointed out to our many new readers (who may not yet know how to read these things) that the 2.42 and the 2.62 (risk factor) findings reported below -- represent an incidence of the cancer that is more than twice as much in the cohort (exposed) group than in the "control" group.  (A group as nearly "the same" as possible -- used for comparison -- to represent the "normal population" of a similar group to the exposed group, though supposedly unexposed).....

Risk factors of 2.42 and 2.62 are slightly higher than we have been seeing in most of the EMF epidemiology cases.....

There is a reason for the "low" risk factors we are observing in the EMF epidemiology studies.  Those findings may be "low" -- lower than Mother Nature is actually creating -- because the "control" groups are NOT totally "unexposed" to EMF exposures.

New readers need to learn about this aspect:  how to read the epidemiology study results ... and why there is a "tilt" in the results toward (perhaps) lower risk factor numbers than they should be -- IF we were accurately comparing this phenomenon.....  i.e., If we were able to find "control group" populations that were totally unexposed.

Cheerio......

Roy,

This new report is based on a deeper analysis of the previous Hardell study, and confirms earlier thesis:

NMT Mobiles increase the odds ration for certain types of cancer. Hardell was interviewed on the Swedish radio last week on this issue.

PS.
NMT = Analogue Scandinavian mobile phone system, utilizing 450 and 900
MHz
bands.

........This paper is very recent!!  I'm not sure that it was known to the Stewart Group......???

I believe Hardell did some earlier work which has been mentioned here on EMF-L, but this citation looks to be more recent.....???

Roy

Recently came across your web site and emf-l archives.  I've been collecting newspaper articles on possible dangers of mobile phones for last few years.

Thought you might not know about a new paper reporting cancer link and mobile phones which I came across today, re work done in Sweden - for details see below)

The safety issues seem to be being smothered or spun off to scientific committees and otherwise deferred and "managed" by bureaucrats and politicians and the communications industry.  Very similar to tobacco and  has parallels also to the deliberate creation and release into the environment of genetically modified lifeforms (ie GM foods, etc)

As has been mentioned on your list, a Senate committee here in Australia is actually accepting submissions right now, prior to hearings. Deadlines are very tight and I have no expertise - just a cautious desire to keep my environment healthy.  Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable folk are putting in arguments.

I won't join your list yet, as may soon change my email address

For the paper, see

Extracts from Abstract....

Context. Ionizing radiation is a well-established risk factor for brain tumors. During recent years, microwave exposure from the use of cellular telephones has been discussed as a potential risk factor. Objective. To determine risk factors for brain tumors.
......

Results. ...... Ipsilateral use of cellular telephones increased the risk for tumors in the temporal, temporoparietal, and occipital lobes (OR, 2.42; 95% CI, 0.97-6.05), ie, the anatomic areas with highest exposure to microwaves from a mobile telephone. The result was further strengthened (OR, 2.62; 95% CI, 1.02-6.71) in a multivariate analysis that included laboratory work and medical diagnostic x-ray investigations of the head and neck........
